Junior Judo Nationals 2009

Once again we went to Walsall and had a good day.
We took twelve students up and we were very successful in the medal field. We did not win the shield this time and decided to let someone else win it!

We came third for the ratio of points per club. What was more impressive was we came third for the most points gained by any club so out of all those clubs who attended when they added up all the points they got we were third. One club had about 25 students there so our twelve did well.

It was unfortunate that some our lads had to fight others from our club which meant that we were knocking out our own people but that is the way it goes. Ryan’s first bout in the open was against Sam! He got a special award and that was great considering it was his first open ever.

Ali was the only person to get a Gold, so well done Ali.
Some of the other guys would have got a gold but got a “No Score Draw” and the referee had to give the decision to the person he thought was just ahead of the other. Dexter, Connor and James Harris lost out in this way.

The fact that everyone did their best is what it is about. Medals are Ok but if you gave your all then that is the main thing so well done everybody.

Results. For groundwork and randori.

Ryan Sterling -  2 Silver and a Special Award for the open.
Sam Taylor -  1 Bronze 2 Silver [One of the silvers for the open]
Ali Khalaf  - I Gold 1 Silver.
Connor Sterling - 1 Bronze 1 Silver.
Zachary Bolby - Medal for taking part and well earned.
Toby Lemar - Also got a medal for the course and did well.
Zak Khalaf  -  Special Award[ he was up against some big blokes did very well]
James Sermbezis - 1 Bronze.
James Holmwood - Special Award He did very well and kept going.
James Harris - 1 Silver and Special Award and won a jar of sweets for guessing how many sweets were in the jar
Dexter Gribble - 1 Bronze 1 Silver.
Harry Sermbezis - 2 Bronze. Well done Harry.

18 Awards, and two third places not bad for a small club. Well done everybody and a big thank you to the parents who came.

Sensei John.

Note to everyone regarding the Syllabus and preparation for gradings:

I have given everyone a syllabus. I want you to tick what you know and cross what you do not know up to your grade. The idea of this is that you become aware of what bits you need to concentrate on to get up to speed so that you know your previous belts perfectly. In this way you will be laying down good foundations for your next grading. Keep the syllabus in your training bag and every now and then I shall ask what bits you need to go over.

On the 26th of April Chris Oultram 2nd Dan is coming to give the region a course. It is from 12.00-4.00pm and will cost £10. Everyone should try and get there.

Cheers.
John.

Update

It has been a long time since the website has been updated. Apologies to all those who have logged on expecting something new and finding nothing.

I hope that this year there will be regular updates and who knows perhaps a new technique. We may have to change the title to “Technique of the year instead of the month. Or even technique of the decade! I hope that there will be improvements.

So, Congratulations are in order first of all.
The grading in December taken by Sensei Steve Donaghy had some good results:

5th Kyu

Connor Sterling - Green
Ryan Sterling - Green
Jarred Brockett - Green
Ellis Brockett - Green
Daniel Silk - Green
James Harris - Green
James Sermbezis - Green
Dexter Gribble - Green

Seniors:

1st kyu

Nick James - Brown

Further congratulations go to Nick who went through a very tough brown grading lasting five hours and survived but won his brown belt Commiserations go to James who also survived the grading but was not awarded his belt. It takes a lot of courage to go on and try again after failing a grading and that is what James is going to do. The person who got top brown at nick’s grading failed it last year. So James good luck for next time

As we go into 2008 Paul and I would like to wish you and your family a very Happy New Year.

On Saturday, 8th October, members of the Crowborough Jitsu Club travelled to the National Sports Centre in Shropshire to take part in a fighting competition attended by young people from all over the country. The three members pictured here not only won the top awards but took part in a two hour grading gaining their much coveted black belt.

Robert Lecomber won Silver in the Open and Bronze in the Dan and Brown competition he gained his First Dan Black belt.

The Jitsu Foundation only goes up to Third Dan in their black belt category and to obtain one takes a lot of dedication to training in the skill of self- defence. Julian is now the only Junior Second Dan in the whole of the British Isles.

Third in line is James Taylor who took Gold in the Dan and Brown competition and gained his First Dan black belt.

Sensei John Harquail Senior Primary First Dan. Gained an instructor’s award only one of four given out Nationally.

Finally the club has just celebrated its tenth anniversary!
