Introduction
Here we have a defence against a knife attack to the stomach. The first thing to do is to get into your stance. The second thing to do is to relax and not tense up. Yes, this is easy to say and that is why we train for knife attacks. So that if the real thing happens we will not freeze and tense up, because if we do we will not be able to move out of the way of the knife coming in.
For those who come to Jitsu for the first time we always give a range of techniques and finishes from minimum finishing force to maximum if someone is trying to seriously injure us.

Step: 1
It is quite possible in a real knife attack that we will get cut but if we can stop a serious injury, that is our aim. With all this in mind let us begin our defence pattern.
We could start the technique with some dialogue; “What do you want? Why are you attacking me? If confident enough you could lull the person into a false sense of being in power.
"Please don’t hurt me” During this exchange you are giving yourself time to prepare for the attack if it comes.

Step 2:
Whatever they (Uke) do, waiving the knife moving about from side to side at some stage they have to step forward to stick the knife into you.

Step 3:
If you stay where you are and you are not in your stance you will get stabbed.

Step 4:
Imagine a clock. Uke is standing at 12 o’clock. You, Tori are standing at 6 o’clock. Your movement will take this form: with your leading foot-your left- you take a step to 9.oclock and twist your hips to follow. Your right foot slides to 8 o’clock. it is a "step slide "motion. Even if you do nothing else you have got out of the way of the knife.

Step 5:
As you step- slide, your right hand with the back of your wrist facing outwards, blocks and protects your groin /stomach area (see photo below)

Step 6:
Your leading hand, after an Atemi strike collects the attacking arm and slides down to Uke's wrist
Note: The Atemi strike is a quick 'flick' into the face or eyes of Uke. The purpose is to distract or stun, so his arm relaxes

Step 7:
Make sure that you place your thumb on the back of Uke's wrist Your leading arm will also be bent with your elbow pointing towards Uke's face to prevent a fist strike from his left hand and to give Uke an elbow strike just in case you miss the wrist grab.
By Bringing Tori's left hand to join his right, adds more control and more power.
Tori then twists Uke's wrist anti-clockwise to the left and keeps twisting

Step 8:
This twisting action is similar to putting somebody into wrist-lock Number 1 (Kote-Gaeshi)
By having the thumbs on the back of Uke’s wrist and pushing the wrist anticlockwise and towards Uke. You will know it is working when Uke's body also starts to twist wanting to get out of the pain

Step 9:
Your next move is to twist your hips anticlockwise and step through with your right foot to 10 or 11 o’clock this stops Uke from stepping around to get out of the pain and also puts up a line of defence for you i.e. not getting kicked in the groin.
The final move is to keep pushing Uke's wrist to the ground and the body will follow.
