Step 1:
This technique should only be done once you have learnt the basics of the Hair Grab above. The technique demands more flowing movement.
The Tori, Sensei John Harquail prepares to demonstrate Advanced Defense against a Hair-Grab on his uke, Robert Lecomber (2nd Kyu).
As Uke grabs Tori’s hair he steps back and turns his head and brings his arm over as in the first hair grab technique.
Instead off pushing Uke’s arms down to the ground Tori whips them down and around to Uke’s left side forcing him to spin in that direction. The action is very similar in dealing with a gun attack where Tori brings Uke’s arm with the gun across his body

Step 2: (2 + 3) As Uke is spinning around Tori quickly side- steps to the back of him and pulls his head back by grabbing his hair or neck: see step 4.

Step 3:
|
|
| |
Step 4: reaching under his chin and pulling- twisting and pulling his head back
|
|
| |
Step 5: Tori then “Gakes” or hooks his left foot into the back of Uke’s right leg and this will make him drop to the floor.

N.B
Speed is the essence of this technique and the attack to the back of Uke comes as he is twisted to the side. Tori has to get behind him by one huge side step. Tori is now in control and if he did not want to use the Gake he could lock up Uke's, arm twist his head and lead him out. But that is for another time!
Look at the insert video to get an idea of the movement then have a play!
