People have been rightly saying, “It’s about time we had a new technique of the month”. Well here is one performed by Tori, James Taylor Junior Brown and his Uke, Robert LeComber Junior Brown.
This technique gets its result by taking your attacker (Uke) one way then confusing him by going the other way. Uke has to be coming in for the attack at pace. Trying to do this from a standstill stance is not as effective.
Step 1: James gets into his stance.

| |
Step 2: James defends as if going for Ko Soto Gari. Tori side steps to the outside of the punch and then gets to the back of Uke.
| |
Step 3: Tori places his left arm over Uke’s left shoulder and with reverse hand hooks it around Uke’s head, At the same time he is pulling Uke’s right arm down and into Tori’s Hara (Centre)
| |
Step 4: The movement that we are looking for is a pulling around where Tori is spinning on his own Axis and taking Uke with him
| |
Step 5: This is the “taking Uke one way “ and then changing the whole scene
| |
Step 6: Tori spins on his feet turning the other way and as Uke wants to regain his balance by pulling himself up Tori assists this by placing his hand under Uke’s chin and pushing his head back
Or as we might say in Jitsu terms “ slamming his hand into Uke’s face and driving his head back over his body”
| |
Step 7: Notice how Tori has placed his hand in the middle of Uke’s back to restrict his movement so that he cannot walk backwards and this also assists with the arching of Uke’s back
| |
Step 8: Look at James’s face he is saying, “It’s all over for you mate” As he slams Robert into the floor.
Now look at the small video to see this lovely movement of going one way then the other.

Points To Remember
Remember to lower you weight at the beginning of the technique and to keep the same height all the way through except at the end where you are driving up and backwards.
Practice without Uke there of side stepping and spinning making sure the power is coming from the hips. You have to perform a circular movement you then twist and go the other way. Do this several times so that it flows.
As we are practising Uke goes with this flow. In reality it may not be so “Flowing” but if The attacker is coming in with some force the going one way and then switching to the other direction will undoubtedly produce a result.
Many thanks to James and Robert for this technique.
